  2. Turn left onto HI-130 / Keaau Pahoa Bypass Road continuing to HI-130 and go about 10.7 miles.

  3. At the traffic circle, continue straight onto HI-130 and continue 5.4 miles.

From Kona (KOA) Airport:

KMEC is a nice 2.5 to 3 hour scenic drive from Kona Airport, halfway around the Island of Hawai’i, “the Big Island”, via either the northern route or Saddle road passing Mauna Kea.

  1. Make a left out of the Kona Airport and drive north on Route 19.

  2. Continue on Route 19 through Waimea, down the Hamakua coast (still Route 19) until you get to Hilo.

  3. Past the waterfront side of town, make a right onto Highway 11 at Ken’s House of Pancakes (sign says Volcano 30 miles).

*Look for the 13-260 Pohoiki sign and two (2) tall poles with reflectors on either side of our driveway. The gate will be open.

*Do Not take Highway 132/Kapoho Rd/Pahoa Village Rd east from the intersection at the southern end of Pahoa. The old route was covered in lava during last years eruption and we must now take Opihakao Dr.

HELPFUL HINT – Please try to arrive during daylight hours as this will make your drive and arrival more pleasant.

Public Transportation from Hilo:

There is also very limited public transportation via the Hele-On county bus that leaves from downtown Hilo. This is a slow, but inexpensive option, that comes to Pahoa, where we could pick you up for a smaller cost if you can coordinate schedules. For more information visit the Hele-On bus website.
